Financial Planning Discussion Group,
Moderated by Fred Smith

This discussion group inspired by well received Financial Planning Workshops presented by Fred Smith. Fred presented 9 Financial Workshop series during October 2015 through May 2016 at Silicon Valley AAII Local Chapter. Fred also presented the same series twice, in more detail at Los Altos Library.

These meetings feature informal discussions on a broad range of financial planning topics including investing, taxes, retirement planning, and more. We meet on the second Wednesday of each month from September thru June.

Computerized-Mechanical Investing Group

The CIMI group discusses and presents ideas on how to use computers in investing focusing on rules, algorithms, programs and computerized investing tools of various flavors. Meetings are on the first Thursday of each month.

Steve has been evaluating the advantages and disadvantages of a tax-free investment approach. He will report about that adventure and how that approach compares to a simple adaptive allocation strategy and two buy-and-hold funds. His comparisons include the usual CAGR and MDD as well as how underlying costs impact returns and an initial estimate of compensation of personal time spent on each approach.
